Sujet du message:  Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints needed Répondre en citant

less than 10 minutes to obliterate what looked like a milestone victory for the seemingly cursed Cleveland Browns.Wil Lutz kicked a 44-yard field goal with 21 seconds left Ken Crawley Jersey , Cleveland kicker Zane Gonzalez pushed the second of his two missed field goals wide right in the final seconds, and the Saints held on for a 21-18 victory that extended the Browns’ winless streak to 19 games.“These are games that we find we find our identity a little bit,” Brees said, alluding to New Orleans’ inability to score more than three points until the first of Michael Thomas‘ two touchdown catches with 8:41 to go. “These are games that, hey, you didn’t have your best stuff, but you found a way.”With the help of another Cleveland collapse.Gonzalez also missed two extra points, one week after his potential winning field goal was blocked in a season-opening tie with Pittsburgh. His final miss came from 52 yards.“It snowballed,” Gonzalez said, acknowledging the psychological effect of earlier misses that he hooked left before pushing his final miss the other way. “I was overcompensating. I get paid to make those kicks and I have to make them.”Gonzalez’s tough day represented only a portion of Cleveland’s implosion. Defensive back Derrick Kindred‘s defensive holding penalty on what would have been a third-down sack extended New Orleans’ first touchdown drive, which ended with Thomas’ 2-yard catch and cut Cleveland’s lead to 12-10.With just less than five minutes left, Saints safety Marcus Williams intercepted Tyrod Taylor in Cleveland territory on a pass Taylor threw back over the middle as he was rolling to his right.“You never want to throw late down the middle,” Taylor said. “That’s something I need to be better at. That play was not good for us. You can’t put your team in that situation.”The turnover led to New Orleans’ second TD on a 5-yard fade to Thomas, who said he was determined to make up for his fumble earlier in the game. Thomas outjumped two defenders to make the catch.“Enough was enough,” Thomas said. “I needed to respond and help my teammates, and that’s what I did. And I still owe them.”Brees finished 28 for 35 for 243 yards and two TDs for New Orleans (1-1). Thomas caught 12 passes for 89 yards.Taylor was 22 of 30 for 246 yards, one TD and one interception. Jarvis Landry had five catches for 69 yards, and Carlos Hyde scored on a 1-yard TD run.It wasn’t enough for the Browns (0-1-1), who were very close to starting 2-0.“It’s tough, but we got a lot of football left to play,” Landry said.GOOD KAMARAAlvin Kamara, the 2017 offensive rookie of the year, continued to be a bright spot in a largely frustrating day for New Orleans’ offense. His seemingly slippery running style continued to produce yards after contact and he wound up with 99 yards from scrimmage A.J. Klein Color Rush Jersey , including 53 on six catches. His run for a late 2-point conversion gave the Saints an 18-12 lead and made a difference after Taylor found rookie receiver Antonio Callaway for a 47-yard, all-or-nothing TD heave on fourth-and-5 with 1:16 to go.Gonzalez missed a point-after kick for the second time, and Brees’ 42-yard completion to Ted Ginn Jr. set up Lutz’ go-ahead kick.TURNOVERSThe Browns, who forced six turnovers against Pittsburgh in Week 1, recovered two more fumbles when Thomas and Ginn were both stripped after receptions.Browns defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi sacked Brees twice and would have had a third if not for Kindred’s penalty.Overall, it was a strong showing for the unit coached by coordinator Gregg Williams, who held the same job in New Orleans when the Saints won their only Super Bowl.INJURIESBrowns: Safety Damarious Randall received treatment on the field after being in on a tackle in the second quarter.Saints: Tommylee Lewis received treatment for what the club described as a knee injury after a big hit during a punt return in the second quarter. He was listed as questionable to return to the game. … Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins left in the fourth quarter after taking a hit to the head. He said after the game his face mask was pushed into his nose but that he did not have a concussion.UP NEXTBrowns: Host the New York Jets on Thursday night.Saints: Visit Atlanta on Sunday.___ Drew Brees is in his 13th year playing for the Saints 鈥?and it’s been about that long since he’s beaten the Cleveland Browns.Brees’ first game with New Orleans was a victory at Cleveland in 2006. The Browns have won the past two meetings in 2010 and 2014.“Man, they’ve been tough games against these guys,” Brees recalled this week as he prepared for his latest clash with Cleveland on Sunday. While the Saints (0-1) made the playoffs last season, they’ve opened the season with an upset loss at home to Tampa Bay. Cleveland (0-0-1) comes in with a marginally better record after its opener against Pittsburgh finished in a tie.And Brees doesn’t want to hear about how the Browns haven’t won a game since 2016 鈥?not after watching Cleveland’s defense produce six Steelers turnovers last weekend.“You hate the fact they haven’t had a win for a while, because you look at their side of the ball and you’re like, ‘Man, that is a really good defense that did a lot of good things,'” Brees said.“Forget their record. Forget last time they had a win. … Whatever they throw at us, we have to have a plan for, we have to be ready for 鈥?do all the things that equate to winning football.”If Cleveland were to end a long winless streak in the Superdome on Sunday, it wouldn’t be the first time. When the current incarnation of the Browns joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1999, they arrived in New Orleans winless through seven games and wound up celebrating their first victory after Tim Couch’s 56-yard heave as time expired found Kevin Johnson in the end zone. The lasting image for Saints fans was deflated then-coach Mike Ditka lying face-down on the turf. For the Saints to avoid falling on their collective faces against Cleveland again, New Orleans’ defense likely will have to improve on the more than 500 yards it allowed to the Bucs in Week 1.For new Browns QB Tyrod Taylor, the opportunity to play the Saints represents a shot at redemption. He struggled against the Saints last year while playing for Buffalo. He passed for only 56 yards without a touchdown and was intercepted before being removed from that game and benched the following week.“Of course, I remember that game,” Taylor said. “It didn’t go as planned. So, definitely looking forward to competing against that group again.”Some other story lines surrounding the Browns-Saints matchup:RENEWING ACQUAINTANCESAdding intrigue to the matchup is the return of Browns defensive coordinator Gregg Williams to the city where he helped the Saints win a title in 2009. Williams left after 2011 and was suspended months later for his role in the Saints’ bounty scandal https://www.thesaintsfanshop.com/P.J.-Williams-Jersey , which also resulted in Saints coach Sean Payton’s one-year suspension. The previous time the Saints faced one of Williams’ defenses, Payton’s offense ran up the score in a 49-21 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. But Payton now dismisses any notion of lingering animosity.“My relationship with Gregg is great. He was part of a championship we won,” Payton said. “He has done a great job in Cleveland. … This game is more about the Saints and the Browns and finding a way to win regardless of how many points it takes.”BETTER BREESBrees is now 39 and in his 18th season, but showing little sign of slowing down. He passed for 439 yards and three touchdowns last week. And while the Saints lost, the offense looked good scoring 40 points.Brees “continues to play at a really high level,” Browns coach Hue Jackson said. “Obviously, they have very talented players around him.”Saints running back Alvin Kamara, who had 112 yards receiving last week, said Brees’ ability to read defenses will help against the blitz packages favored by Cleveland coordinator Williams.“They’re a high-risk defense. They want to get pressure on the quarterback,” Kamara said. “When you do that, you’ve got to make sure you make it to the quarterback. So, with some of those looks they’re bringing, we’ve got some good things schemed up.”PRESSUREThe Saints’ second highest-paid player on offense is left tackle Terror Armstead, who expects to have one of his tougher assignments this season against Browns defensive end Myles Garrett. Last week, Garrett had two sacks.“It’ll be a fun game,” Armstead said of facing Garrett, the top overall draft choice in 2017. “Size, speed, power he possesses a lot of tools.”QB QUESTIONSWhile wet conditions didn’t help, Taylor’s Browns debut was a sloppy one. He went 15 for 40 passing. If he doesn’t perform better in the dome, it’ll only increase pressure on Jackson to turn to 2018 top draft choice Baker Mayfield.BUCKEYE BATTLESThe game sets up a possible matchup between a pair of former Ohio State players who thrived in Week 1.Cleveland rookie defensive back Denzel Ward had two interceptions and could cover Saints receiver Michael Thomas, who had 16 catches for 180 yards and a touchdown against the Bucs.___AP Sports Writer Tom Withers in Cleveland contributed.___
